My final third year project involved creating a graphic novel for Orokonui Ecosanctuary. I collaborated with Conservation Manager Elton Smith on writing the novel, while I individually illustrated and collated the novel myself. The story centres on the 10 month period when Orokonui staff were tracking a stoat inside the sanctuary while native birds were disappearing one-by-one.
I really enjoyed working on this project because I have always been drawn to graphic novels as a medium for visual storytelling. I think myself extremely lucky to have grow up in such a beautiful country, and working with Orokonui staff who are impassioned about the environment and it's native populations was a strong partnership.
